FEATS OF THE WEEK: Junior Jake Browning of No. 22 Folsom, Calif., set his
state’s record for touchdown passes in a season. Browning (uncommitted) threw
for six scores in a 49-16 playoff rout of Elk Grove, Calif., Franklin. That put
his season total to 68, three better than the old mark. ... Kenton, Ohio,
advanced to the Division IV state semifinals, thanks to another record-setting
performance from its passing game. In a 46-43 win against Bryan, Ohio, senior
Grant Sherman (uncommitted) had a state-record 56 completions for 486 yards and
five touchdowns. Senior receiver Justin Sawmiller had 24 receptions, pushing
his season total to a state-record 147. Sawmiller (uncommitted) is already the
national record-holder for career receptions (434) and is likely to break the
state record for receiving yards in a season when Kenton plays Clarksville,
Ohio, Clinton-Massie on Saturday. ... Senior quarterback John Wolford had 772
combined passing and rushing yards with 10 touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to
keep Jacksonville, Fla., Bishop Kenny from falling to Green Cove Springs, Fla.,
Clay in a wild 74-73 Class 5A playoff game. Wolford (East Carolina) finished
his career with 13,403 total yards and 162 touchdowns, breaking state records
previously held by 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. ... Iowa City, Iowa,
Regina set a state record with its 56th consecutive win. The Regals
whipped Fort Dodge, Iowa, St. Edmond, 35-0, in the Class 1A finals for their
fourth state crown in a row. Regina’s unbeaten streak is currently the longest
in the nation among 11-man teams. However, Ithaca, Mich., could match it with a
win Friday in the Division 6 state championship.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season to the present.
The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and websites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service.
Among the criteria used in the weekly compilation of the National Prep Poll rankings are strength of schedule, the ability to accomplish the ultimate goal on a team's schedule (i.e. winning a championship), impact players and performers, a team's coaching and recent tradition.
About PrepNation.com: PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001 by Jamie DeMoney for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.
