Week 5 National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- There was some shakeup in this week's National Prep Football Poll following an impressive weekend for New Jersey high school football and a topsy-turvy one down in Texas.

The Garden State has the top three teams in the Northeast region Top 10, led by national No. 10 Don Bosco (Ramsey). The Ironmen, last year's Prep Poll champion, opened the season with an impressive 33-6 blowout on the road against then-No. 22 Gilman (Baltimore). No. 21 St. Peter's (Jersey City) was equally dominant in its 35-7 runaway from Philadelphia power St. Joseph's Prep. Regionally ranked Bergan Catholic (Oradell) knocked defending Pennsylvania 4A titlist La Salle (Wyndmoor) out of the Top 25 with a 22-21 victory.

Trinity (Euless, Texas) sits atop the Prep Poll for the fifth consecutive week. The Trojans have looked nearly unbeatable, outscoring their first three opponents by a combined score of 165-29.

However, No. 18 Stony Point (Round Rock) is the only other Texas team represented in the Top 25 this week.

Defending 5A/II champion Abilene, which was ranked No. 5 last week, was upset by Florida small-school power Cocoa, 24-21, in DeSoto, Texas. While reigning 4A/I Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) had its 48-game winning streak snapped by defending 4A/II titlist Aledo, 14-10. The Cavaliers entered the game ranked No. 6 in the Prep Poll.

The big game, a mini-Georgia-Florida showdown, will be October 1 when Camden travels down to Ft. Lauderdale to take on St Thomas Aquinas with the game televised on ESPNU. The winner might even have a claim for the national championship if they can win out.

Jamie, where is Cocoa?

Camden is going to get completely spanked by STA. They are not even on the same level, so it is no Florida vs. Georgia Showdown. And where is Cocoa? So you can show love to John Curtis is 2006, but an actually deserving smaller school gets completely overlooked. Heck they don't even make your southeast region list, yet they are the best in Florida at the moment. Ridiculous

Only problem with the Euless team is that they really don't play anybody until the playoffs so you don't really know how good they are.
