Week 18 National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- For the first time during the 23-year history of World Features Syndicate's National Prep Football Poll, a team from the Northeast region is poised to finish the season ranked No. 1 in the country.

Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.), which has won four straight Non-Public IV state titles and 23 consecutive games, moved into the top spot in the Week 18 poll. The Ironmen have been the beneficiary of seven upsets to Top 10 teams during the last two weeks.

Right behind Don Bosco at No. 2 in the rankings is North Carolina 4AA champion Butler (Matthews), which will probably receive heavy consideration for the preseason No. 1 national ranking next year. The Bulldogs feature a talented junior class, led by blue chip quarterback Christian LeMay.

No. 3 Abilene (Texas) is probably the only team that could still unseat Don Bosco from the top ranking in the final poll. The Eagles remain undefeated heading into Saturday's Texas 5A/II title game against two-time defending champion No. 7 Katy.

I was with you all the way up to this week. Can you explain how a team (Good Counsel) is ranked 14th season complete and over the course of 2 weeks no less than 8 teams ranked higher lose and GC ends up down at 22. They beat the team that was ranked 14th (DeMatha) at the time to reemerge into the top 25 from earlier in the year. The only loss was a 3 point loss to the same team they would later avenge in the WCAC championship. Can you help me out?

Another week of upsets. Now both former #1 and #2 have fell to hungier underdogs. Keeps it interesting!

Don Bosco does not justify a #1 ranking by only beating Prattville and De La Salle. The rest of their opponents were horrible. Come on Jamie do some actual analysis instead of just moving teams up by default. The national champ needs to be from Texas, Cali, or Florida based on the overall strength of teams statewide.

The rest of Don Bosco's opponents were horrible? Really? Bergen Catholic (defeated two out of state opponents and only losses to Bosco and St. Peters); St. Josephs Regional (Group III non-public state champion and only losses to Bosco and Bergen Catholic); St. Peter's Prep (only losses to Bosco and St. Josephs Philadelphia); Seton Hall Prep (only losses to Bosco and one other team.) These teams are horrible? Really? These teams which have been nationally ranked in the top 25 over twenty times alone over the past 10 years are horrible? Wow. Someone needs to get out of TX a bit.

It seems you're the one who needs to do some analysis my friend.

Please, those teams in the northeast are ALL garbage compared to Texas, California and Florida. Throw in Louisiana and Alabama and the south in general(LSU has 2 nat'l titles with mostly La. players and Bama is going for one now. I don't think I have to add anything about the big three. Look at the conferences: ACC outside of GT and the Florida schools are pathetic(NC, MD, SC etc). Virginia has good athletes but but as a whole the entire east coast is VASTLY INFERIOR to the big three and the south. Third in line is the midwest, but they can't compete with the top three either. SO...there is NO WAY Don Bosco, with all of 12 games played, is the best in the country.

Do you speak alien? Seriously, I can't even follow your terribly written post much less whatever argument you're trying to make. It looks like you're talking about colleges and saying that has something to do with whether Bosco is the best high school team in the nation, which makes no sense at all. Of course you completely failed to address the fact that at least 4 teams on Bosco's schedule are nationally ranked powerhouses and the best teams from the best state for HS FB in the northeast thereby totalling contradicting your initial premise that Bosco only played terrible teams. Of course that doesn't account fo the fact that Bosco spanked two teams playing for state championships in CA and AL. Thanks for playing. Do you know anything at all about Bosco or the teams you so glibly denigrate. I highly doubt it.

Now I'm sure you'll tell us how Lake Travis TX is better than Bosco because people just love high school football there more. LOL

Ok, let’s start with Bergen Catholic whom you say defeated two out of state teams which are Iona Prep from NY and ended the season 4-6 and Westfield, MA which ended its season at 4-7. Wow some real out-of-state powers. Bergen lost to St. Peter’s twice and Don Bosco once. Out of their 11 games they played the same team twice (losses) and the so called national champion (loss) and two sorry out-of-state teams to go along with the rest of the weak New Jersey teams. Next up we have St. Joseph’s Regional who you say won the prestigious Group III non-public state championship with a 9-3 record after losses to the horrible team above, Bergen Catholic and their poor excuse of a schedule, as well as St. Peter’s Prep and Don Bosco. Not very impressive if you ask me. Speaking of St. Peter’s, they also sport a 9-3 record with those wins and losses coming to the same team twice. The other loss is to a Philly team that was also 9-3 and could not win in its own state which also shows the New Jersey football weakness. Lastly we have Seton Hall Prep, who does sport a respectable 9-2 record. The other loss you failed to mention though was to Wayne, NJ who finished with a not very respectable 7-3 record. So yes, mister New Jersey football guru, other than the two wins over De La Salle and Prattville, Don Bosco played a weak schedule and not to mention won the New Jersey state championship after only playing 12 games and beat one of those teams twice. It takes 16 games to call yourself a champion in the state of Texas in a bracket of 64. There is no way DB would beat Katy and at least 10 other teams from across the state. You also say that these teams have been ranked in the top 25 for the past 10 years? One, I highly doubt it. And two, who cares about the past ten years! We are talking about this season. And I think it is you that needs to get out from under your Rutgers blanket and take a trip down to Texas next fall so you can experience some real high school football. It is going to take more than some fancy words to make me a believer of the powers in Jersey. 4 teams nationally ranked. LOL. How is this for analysis my friend?

I'd say its terrible for analysis because your conclusions bear no logical relationship to the facts. You call Bergen Catholic horrible because they lost to the best team in the nation by 8 points and twice to the second best team in NJ? Who could argue with that logic? If one were to go by your uneducated analysis they would conclude that Seton Hall Prep was Bosco's toughest opponent because of their "respectable record" as you say but what you don't account for is that SHP doesn't have to play Bosco, BC, SJR and SPP during the regular season of their record would be the same. You see you have no idea what you're talking about because you've never seen NJ HS FB. You look at all these TX cupcakes losing to each other and you think that means your all so great when you're really not as good as you think. Of course your flawed analysis carries over to every team you look at. Noone in the Northeast who has actually seen these teams would look at Bosco, BC, SJR and SPP and not immediately conclude that these are elite teams that would crush 98% of the teams in America. For cryin out loud TX gets it butt whipped by CA and look what Bosco did to them.

Finally, if you think Katy TX would beat Bosco than you simlpy have no idea what Bosco is like. I've watched alot of Katy and we are talkiong about two different universes here. Bosco would paste Katy by 50 points.

How can you say it's terrible for analysis when your argument has no substance? You say that CA beat Tex and you show no proof. If you are going to post an argument and are talking about facts then you should take your own advice and do some research first. Also if you wanted to make Bergen sound like a good team then you shouldn't of added those two out of state opponents as part of your argument because it seems like that is uneducated analysis. And you should also learn to spell before you talk about being educated and logical. To be honest I am a little disappointed because this is the best you could do. You really did not make any sense when you talked about the teams in the Northest and something about 98%. Please try again.

Don Bosco deserves the No. 1 spot. And I'm from Louisiana.

Jamie I was wondering if you can explain to us how you can rank Camden County higher than Hoover?
Hoover beat them at Camden after a 450 mile bus ride and has a better overall record 14-1vs 13-2. Head to head should matter.

Don Bosco was behind Prattville in the 4th quarter Hoover led Prattville the entire game.
