Week 17 National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- Following a playoff weekend that saw the upset of eight Top 25 teams, there are plenty of changes in the Week 17 National Prep Football Poll.

South Carolina 4A/I champion Dorman (Roebuck) leads the parade of teams entering the national poll this week. The No. 7 Cavaliers shocked then-No. 2 Byrnes (Duncan), 28-17, avenging their only loss of the season.

Tulsa Union also avenged its only loss of the year and is back in the national poll at No. 14. The Redskins hammered rival Jenks, 52-19, for the Oklahoma 6A crown.

No. 19 Northside (Warner Robins) and No. 20 Servite (Anaheim), both of which were nationally ranked earlier this season, return to the national Top 25 in advance of playing in championship games this weekend. Northside is gunning for the Georgia 5A title while Servite will meet No. 3 Edison for the CIF-SS Pac-5 crown.

No. 21 West Monroe (La.) and No. 23 Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), each no stranger to the national rankings, can add to their already impressive collection of state championship hardware this weekend.

No. 24 La Salle (Wyndmoor) has advanced to the Pennsylvania 4A semifinals in its first season competing in the state playoffs.

How can you not have Hilliard Davidson in the top 25? they beat previously #4 ranked Glenville in 2009 D-1 state finals, Elder, Dublin Coffman in regional finals 22-7 avenging their only loss of the season when they were without their starting QB and both leading rushers. Also defeated Westerville South, Pickerington Central, Col. Brookhaven, Upper Arlington, Lancaster etc. This is the only rankings that doesn't have them in the top 25. Hilliard Davidson also won the D-1 big school title in 2006. Semi-finalist in 2005, regional finalist in 2001,2004, 2008.

This could rightly be called the weekend of upsets! At this point all the teams are good. I listened to the Byrnes game and it was a thriller.

No respect for Camden County HS - they beat Colquitt County 19-10 on Friday on a cold rainy night. Look at their record defense. Next weekend, they play Nortside Warner Robins for the Georgia 5A championship, and a possible back to back title one in one of the toughest states to do so. Jim

Find it amazing that De La Salle (Concord) has 2 losses (games 2 and 3) to #2 Don Bosco (half the team coming down with flu but not an excuse we got whipped) and #17 Lakeland (in overtime by going for 2 I might add) and they aren't even ranked in the West.

Jamie - interesting dynamic happening in this week's poll. You had seven teams enter the top 25 who were previously unranked. You have also had Highlands (KY) ranked for a couple of weeks now but have not moved them at all from the #25 spot.

How is this possible? How can 7 teams enter the rankings and all of them slot in ahead of Highlands? Shouldn't the Bluebirds take a few steps forward in the poll?

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Okay, Camden County High School beat Northside Warner Robins, 31-3 to win back to back Georgia State 5A Championships and the 3rd this decade to make this team, the team of the decade in Georgia, notably a tough HS football state. In 5 playoff games this year, they gave up an average of about 5 points/game. After losing 2 of three preseason games, a change in QBs and a modified defense has transitioned this team to one of the top teams in the nation, I think better than the 15-0 team from last year. After graduating 35 seniors, 21 scholarships, this team was totally rebuilt into another state championship team capable of playing with any team in the country. Camden County, 48,000 people, located in coastal Georgia has an believable program. Please give them the recognition that they have earned. Jim
