Final National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- The Northeast's most dominant team of the decade now has a National Prep Poll title to show for it. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) is No. 1 in the final National Prep Football Poll of the season, becoming the first team from the region to finish as the country's top-ranked high school football team in the 23-year history of the poll.

The Ironmen won their fourth consecutive Non-Public Group IV state title and sixth in eight years. They defeated six teams that were nationally or regionally ranked this season, including a 30-6 blowout in week one of eventual California Open Division champion De La Salle (Concord).

Texas 5A/II champion Abilene, which went 15-0 and won its first state crown since 1956, finished the season ranked No. 2. North Carolina 4AA titlist Butler (Matthews) is ranked No. 3 and two-time defending Tennessee Division II-AA champion Memphis University closed the year at No. 4. Rounding out the top five is Lake Travis (Austin), which ended the season with its third straight Texas 4A title and a 46-game winning streak.

Nicely done. And even though I'm from Louisiana, I agree with the West Monroe ranking. I love what that program does, but I don't think the No. 3 ranking by Rivals is accurate. Not this year. I've seen several better teams from West Monroe over the past 16 years.

I don't know anything about Bosco, but before next years opening rankings think about Abilene High's Qback, Ronnell Sims, Fback, Hershall Sims and Hback, Tony Curtis along with about nine more starters being juniors. Two peat? heavyduty, Abilene

A really young Abliene team DOMINATED Cedar Hill, the number one team in the state of Texas since the season began, and they went on to bully everyone else they played in the playoffs. This is Texas btw, and Division 2, which was loaded this year. Abilene, Allen, Cedar Hill, Southlake Carrol, Arlington Bowie, all of those were only in redion one. Abilene also handled Katy very well and you still won't give them enough credit for the number one spot? This is shocking that a team could be this good in Texas, voted the biggest HS football state in the nation, and they are still number two to New Jersey? After seeing what they did to Cedar Hill, i didn't think anyone, possibly Katy, could hang with Abilene. And i still think that's the case, Don Bosco would get pounded hard by Abilene. I'm a Euless Trinity almuni, and I'm glad we didn't get in the same division as Abilene, or we probably wouldn't be holding a state championship at this moment. But Trinity and Abilene are both incredibly young, they will both be back next year with so many startes, and I think Trinity will dominate this next season.

Euless Trinity, TX has either won the 5A state championship or was knocked out of the playoffs by the team that did win the championship for the last six years straight.
They have three state championships during that time. That is unmatched by any other TX 5A teams.

Wherever you go you run into this Texas arrogance.

"This is shocking that a team could be this good in Texas, voted the biggest HS football state in the nation, and they are still number two to New Jersey?"

I would suggest that Bosco who is from NJ has the best "program" in the country. Their off season training is second to none and there is no team that is more disciplined/better drilled or better conditioned year in and year out.
They don't always have the most natural talent but on a year where they have 8 seniors entering the season with D1 offers it is ridiculous to question their selection.
What Toal has done as a coach is unique. He makes kids better, much better than anyone else can and all his teams are better than the sum of the parts.
He is the real story this decade in high school football.

De La Salle started the decade with four mythical national championships, and later won two California state championships. Sorry Don Bosco, but that puts DLS as Team of the Decade.
