Week 8 National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- Booker T. Washington (Miami) is back in the National Prep Poll Top 25 for the first time since the end of the 2007 season. The Tornadoes are ranked No. 16 after their 35-28 upset of then-No. 3 Miami Northwestern on Saturday.

It's a similar story for No. 21 Northside (Warner Robins, Ga.), which also returns to the national poll for the first since '07. The Eagles knocked off previous No. 4-ranked Lowndes (Valdosta), 10-7.

Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) is in at No. 24 one week after defeating Ohio power St. Xavier (Cincinnati). The Bluebirds' rankings resume was upgraded significantly when St. Xavier knocked off then-No. 12 Elder (Cincinnati) over the weekend.

The final spot in this week's Top 25 goes to two-time defending Washington 4A champion Skyline (Sammamish). The Spartans' only loss this season was September 18 to California's top-ranked team, No. 8 Oaks Christian, 28-25.

Hutchinson, KS and Mullen, CO have a common opponent, Rockhurst High in Kansas City, MO. Hutchinson was ahead 42-14 at half and cruised to to a 55-28 win with backups playing the last quarter. Mullen struggled to defeat the same team 2 weeks later. Hmmm!

Your Rankings

East Coast Region

3. Chesapeake, Va., Oscar Smith (5-0) (3)
5. Hampton, Va., Phoebus (5-0) (5)
10. Fairfax, Va., Robinson (5-0) (10

I assume that you are aware that Phoebus scrimmaged both Oscar Smith and Robinson.
I'm not one to read to much into scrimmage results, but Phoebus beat Oscar Smith 27-14 and they beat Robinson 51-14

In Minnesota, Wayzata won the State 5A title last year and has now won 18 straight games. Thus far in 2009 they have played 4 of their 5 games against top 10 ranked teams (in MN) and their starting defense has not allowed a single point. Is there a way to see what their National Rank is in your poll?

This was not an upset. MNW should never have been ranked that high.

Best team again on the west coast is undefeated & unscored upon Grant,Sacramento. De La Salle once again avoids playing Grant as well as everyone else. Grant has to travel out of state to play quality opponents. They return only 2 seniors from last years Calif. State Championship team! They'll finish the season undefeated again and hopefully get voted to the open division bowl again. Then they can prove themselves once more to get their props! Go Pacers!

For whatever reason, the only team in two years to beat Byrnes within the state of SC is missing from your poll. The Dorman Cavaliers have not lost a regular season game in two years and will be undefeated heading into a clash with the Byrnes Rebels on 10/23. Just like last year, the only way for the Cavs to get recognized will be to beat them. They are clearly the "Rodney Dangerfield" of SC high school football.

Chandler Hamilton of Arizona has averaged over 50 points a game (359-55) in 7 contests (they had only one bad game - they dropped 11passes [4 for touchdowns] against their city rivals Chandler, but which they still won 24-20)and you do not have them ranked, at least regionally. I have seen film or broadcast of many of the teams you rank ahead of them from Texas and I am not sure there is one team from Texas that could beat them. There are several sports reporters (Richard Obert from the Phoenix Republic and Jason Skoda from Coaches Aid) that say they think Hamilton is better than Peoria Centennial (which you have ranked #2 regionally and a top 25 team in the nation). I am sure if you look into this you will correct this injustice and rank Hamilton (they are a top 25 team in the nation).

Thanks,

For what it's worth, unbeaten and previously unscored upon Grant has finally been scored upon, but we knew that would happen eventually. As for De La Salle ducking the Pacers, c'mon. I say this as a person who prefers Grant to DLS -- I don't know why DLS's people big-timed Grant in the negotiations two years ago (apparently), but you can bet DLS isn't afraid to play. Something else kept them from saying yes to that two-year deal ... Oh, and unless the Pacers shore up their passing game, there's no guarantee they'll win Sac-Joaquin Section this year, much less a state bowl game.
