Week 6 National Prep Football Poll released

URBANDALE, Iowa -- After recording the 11th shutout in its current 18-game winning streak, defending Virginia Division 5 champion Phoebus (Hampton) entered the National Prep Poll Top 25.

The No. 24 Phantoms, who lost four Division I recruits and its head coach to the college ranks from last year's team that finished ranked No. 8 in the nation, shut out Warwick, 37-0. Warwick is where new Phoebus coach Stan Sexton coached last season.

Defending Colorado 5A titlist Mullen (Denver) moved into the national poll at No. 25 after defeating perennial Missouri power Rockhurst (Kansas City), 17-7, on the Hawklets' home field. The win avenged a loss from last season for the Mustangs.

Elder wins and drops 10 slots? They played and defeated an undefeated league rival (LaSalle) in the always tough GCL-South and Elder drops 10 slots from #5 to #15...

St. Xavier beats Louisville Trinity and moves up from 19th to 13th? Elder beat Trinity bad the week before.

St. Ignatius moves from #15 to #5 by running up the score against average Mentor team which has a 2-2record with its wins coming against a 2-2 team and an 0-4 team.

I appreciate the fact that you're putting this rankings together but you lost a little bit of credibility here. It looks like you get a little too impressed by teams who run up scores...

Of all the writers' polls, I've come to respect this one the most over the years because DeMoney seems to do a much more thorough analysis than anybody else (including strength of schedule).

Neither St. Ignatius nor St. Xavier ran up the score this weekend, but I agree that dropping Elder 10 slots after a win against a league opponent (the league that calpreps ranks #1 every year) is a mistake.

This year, I've personally seen Elder play East St. Louis, Colerain & Trinity, and seen St. X play Colerain and Trinity, and while I believe that St. Xavier is better than Elder (we'll find out for sure Oct. 2), Elder still belongs in the Top 10.

I simply believe that St. Xavier belongs in the top 5. They happily flew under the radar this pre-season, but this could be the most dangerous team they've had yet.

Byrnes # 2 ranking WHY ??

They are a AAAA team and have NOT played a AAAA team yet.

They beat AAA Gwinnett(0-3)has not won a game this year, beat AAA Myrtle Beach, beat AAA Greer (1-3), and beat small school AA Woodland (1-3)

Look at the killer schedule for Elder, St. Xavier, Moeller, ALL are division 1-A (largest schools) defeated several previous state champs from Ill, Indiana, KY. and all are UNDEFEATED.

The Team Schedules SHOULD MATTER, not running up the score on a AA team with 3 losses.

St. X - CINN Schedule
1) Colerain....2008 13-2 State Playoffs .... 2009 # 5 in State, # 60 in Nation --- 2)Indianapolis Cathedral .... 2008 14-2 State Champion ....2009 # 1 in State, # 44 in Nation --- 3)St. Xavier (Louisville, KY).... 2008 12-1 State Runnerup.... 2009 # 1 in State, # 54 in Nation --- 4)Highlands (Fort Thomas, KY).... 2008 14-1 State Champion .... 2009 # 2 in State, # 65 in Nation --- 5)Elder .... 2008 13-2 State Runnerup .... 2009 # 1 in State, # 2 in Nation --- 6)CIN La Salle .... 2008 4-6 # 7 in Cincinnati ....2009 3-1 this year, #7 in Cincinnati --- 7)St. Edward (Lakewood, OH) ....2008 6-5 State Playoffs .... 2009 3-1 this year, # 30 in State --- 8) St. Ignatius (Cleveland, OH) .... 2008 14-1 State Champion .... 2009 # 2 in State, # 22 in Nation --- 9)Moeller .... 2008 6-5 State Playoffs .... 2009 # 4 in State, # 26 in Nation

CINN ST. X

Does any other team in the country play a schedule comparable to them?

Seems like every week they are playing and easily beating a nationally ranked team.

You would think they would be a top 10 team in the country by now.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE

WHY is Byrnes ranked so high WHY

They are a AAAA team and have NOT played a AAAA team yet.

They beat AAA Gwinnett that has not won a game this year (0-3), beat AAA Myrtle Beach, beat AAA Greer (1-3), and ran up the score on a small school AA Woodland (1-3) that should never have scheduled.

Great sportsmanship coach or Mr.JERK COACH

Byrnes is ranked that high because of the #1 RB in the nation, and the other 12- D1 players on the team.
