URBANDALE, Iowa -- Three-time defending Arizona 5A/II champion Centennial (Peoria) thumped reigning Nevada 4A champion McQueen (Reno), 51-20, in the Southwest region's kickoff contest of the season. The impressive win bumped the No. 20 Coyotes up one spot in the first regular season National Prep Poll of 2009.
The season gets cranked up in earnest later this week, when 10 more Top 25 teams kick off their schedules. ESPN and ESPNU will televise three games this weekend, including No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas' opener against Upper Arlington (Ohio) Saturday afternoon.
