PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 16 Allen

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

16. Allen (Texas)
Last season: 15-1, Class 5A/I state champion
Coach: Tom Westerberg
Key players: QB Matt Brown (6-1, 180, Sr.), QB Tucker Carter (6-2, 200, Sr.), OL Cedric Ogbuehi (6-4, 275, Sr.), OL Luke Burleson (6-5, 270, Sr.), OL Taylor Pearson (6-4, 287, Sr.), OL Richard Greer (6-2, 285, Sr.), DB Josh Reed (6-2, 165, Sr.), LB Cheyenne Urban (6-0, 213, Sr.), LB Melvin Spears (6-2, 215, Jr.)
Outlook: The Eagles have only eight total returning starters but are loaded at quarterback and on the offensive line. Carter stepped in when Brown broke his collarbone during last year’s playoffs. He picked up where the highly skilled Arizona recruit left off and helped lead Allen to its first-ever state championship. Expect Westerberg to use both passers in some capacity this season in Allen’s high-powered spread offense attack. All five starting offensive linemen are back this season. Two have made early college commitments with Ogbuehi choosing Texas A&M and Burleson pledging to Baylor. Reed and Urban are the lone returning starters on defense. Spears and the other new faces on that side of the ball must develop in a hurry in order for Allen to fulfill its mission to repeat as state champion.
