PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 14 Don Bosco Prep

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

14. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.)
Last season: 11-1, Non-public Group 4 state champion
Coach: Greg Toal
Key players: OL-DL James Kittredge (6-4, 265, Sr.), OL Brandon Sacco (6-4, 260, Sr.), RB Tony Jones (5-8, 190, Sr.), DE Bryan Murphy (6-3, 225, Sr.), DE-LB Steele DiVitto (6-3, 220, Sr.), TE-LB Ryan Cobb (6-1, 215, Sr.), WR Lennie Caroo (6-2, 205, So.), QB Gary Nova (6-2, 195, Jr.)
Outlook: The Ironmen have a talent and experience-laden team ready to meet the challenges of a demanding schedule. Thirteen total starters return from their fifth state championship squad in seven seasons. It includes five players already committed to Division I colleges. The biggest question mark is deciding on and developing a new starting QB to replace Brett Knief, now on a baseball scholarship at North Carolina. His talent and leadership were vital in Don Bosco’s road defeat of nationally ranked De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) last season. Going into the fall drills, Nova had the most experience among three players competing for the job. Jones, a super quick back who can also line up in the slot, will be the focal point of the rushing attack. Virginia-bound TE Cobb and rising sophomore star WR Caroo should be standouts in the passing game. The offensive line will be anchored by Vanderbilt recruit Kittredge and Sacco, who will play at Pittsburgh. Kittredge will also jump over to defense and join DiVitto, a Boston College commit, and Pittsburgh recruit Murphy on the defensive front. The Ironmen will play a rematch against No. 18 De La Salle, this time in New Jersey, on September 12. Two weeks later, they travel to Alabama to play three-time defending 6A champ No. 19 Prattville.

Bosco may have some other big time players in Burrell, Clark and Canavari. I think any one or all of those guys could go D1. They also have corner back committed to Yale in Brady who looked pretty good last year (picked off a pass against Delasalle).

It has been said that the upcoming Sophmore class is very talented. Key upcoming players to watch are Carroo, Hroncich and Strizack.
