PrepNation 101 Preseason Countdown: No. 2 Byrnes

PrepNation.com continues the most comprehensive package of preseason high school football rankings ever published. We are counting down the PrepNation 101 Preseason High School Football Rankings, from No. 101 to No. 26, leading up to the release of the official preseason National Prep Poll on August 3.

2. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.)
Last season: 14-1, Class 4A/I state champion
Coach: Chris Miller
Key players: RB Marcus Lattimore (6-2, 215, Sr.), QB Chas Dodd (5-11, 180, Sr.), WR Nick Jones (5-10, 185, Sr.), WR Torian Richardson (5-11, 175, Sr.), WR Jazz King (5-11, 180, Sr.), DE Corey Miler (6-4, 245, Sr.), DE Brandon Willis (6-4, 250, Sr.), DB Zack Miller (5-11, 170, Sr.)
Outlook: For the third time in four seasons, Byrnes begins the season ranked in the Top 10 of the National Prep Poll. Six offensive starters return, including one of the best groups of skill players in the country, as the Rebels seek their seventh state title in eight years and a shot at their first national championship. Dodd, a Rutgers recruit, will trigger Byrnes’ high-powered offense for a third season. As a junior, he had 2,397 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. One of the nation’s top-rated running backs, Lattimore gives the Rebels’ pass-oriented offense another explosive dimension. He ran for more than 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns last season. Three veteran receivers are also back in Jones, Richardson, and King. The trio combined for over 1,600 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in ’08. There are only five returning starters on defense, but the unit is very strong up front. Blue chip recruits Corey Miller (Florida St.) and Willis form perhaps the top pair of bookends in all of high school football. Zack Miller is top returning player in the Rebels’ secondary. Byrnes has a Florida opponent on its schedule for the fourth straight year. The Rebels will play at No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) on October 2 in a much-anticipated nationally televised matchup.

Byrnes # 2 ranking WHY
WHY is this team RATED.

They are a AAAA team and have NOT played a AAAA team yet. They beat AAA Gwinnett(0-3)has not won a game this year, beat AAA Myrtle Beach, beat AAA Greer (1-3), and beat small school AA Woodland (1-3)

Look at the killer schedule for Elder, St. Xavier, Moeller, ALL are division 1-A (largest schools) defeated several previous state champs from Ill, Indiana, KY. and all are UNDEFEATED.

The team schedules should matter not running up the score on a AA team with 3 losses.
