i think East St.Louis,Illinois is the real deal and the program i know for a fact is back to its glory days of the 80,s,Detchauz Wray is one if not the best QBs in the state.,John Clay is one of the best young lineman in the nation(he was on the all-american team last year, and the combination of Arterbridge and Molton at running back is deadly.

Anonymous said...

We will find out week 1 if ESTL is the real deal. Should be a huge battle in Cincy vs. Elder. I think that Cedar Hill, TX is a little underated and if they can navigate their early season schedule will have a shot at #1 pending losses by Byrnes and Aquinas. Can't wait until the Oct 2nd matchup #1 vs #2 on ESPNU at 8pm.

Anonymous said...

Florida is fairly accurate. Bolles is a little too high because they don't play ANYONE until the title game (Pahokee, who will beat them).

Footballguy said...

Tell me you are kidding about Rockhurst being #4 in Missouri. They have a ton of young talent in their system. I see them coming out of KC, actually.

Jamie DeMoney said...

Football guy -- Having lived in KC the last 12 years or so, I know and respect Rockhurst to the utmost degree.

I also agree they have some terrific talent on its way, particularly in the junior class.

With that said, the loss of Scheelhaase at QB will be huge.

I am certainly not counting Rockhurst out of the mix. I think a loss or two early in the season is possible but the Hawklets will certainly be a major factor come playoff time.

Footballguy said...

What do you hear of this Jones (SO.) kid from Rockhurst? From what I am hearing, he is the real deal. Arbanas may be the QB this year, but I foresee him going to TE in 2010 with Jones taking over. What I am most hearing from state line road is how good the defense and young o-line may be. If that's the case, they may just indeed go into Hutch and prove to them that last year's game was not a fluke. If you read other blogs, it's a foregone conclusion Hutch is going to win, and win big. I have way too much respect for Rockhurst to think they will get blown out. I think they may surprise their neighbors to the west, even with such a young team.

Jamie DeMoney said...

I don't want to comment on any particular kids, but it's safe to say that Rockhurst has as much young talent coming up as they have ever had.

The Hutch game will be really big for both teams. I don't think Hutch winning is a forgone conclusion, as I think Rock will have a decided speed advantage. With that said, I think Hutch might have the advantage up front. Should be a really interesting game as should the rematch with Mullen.

Like I said, I would not be surprised to see this Rock team lose a couple regular season games but still make a strong push in the postseason.

When the Washington rankings come out, please don't make the mistake of putting Skyline, Wa. infront of Bellevue. Bellevue has asked Skyline to play them an amazing 32 times since last season and Skyline has denied every time! Bellevue was the best team in the state last year (just compare stats) and has the harder schedule this year. Also if you compare positions, Bellevue is also much deeper than Skyline.

Oaks Christian looks like the best HS team at any level in a very very long time. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame should be ranked 3rd behind Oaks, and DLS. Poly is ranked too high considering their staggering personnel losses. STA will not go undefeated.

Anonymous said...

Oaks Christian is ranked way too high. Given they have lots of talent, but they are an uproiven program at the highest level in California. In 2006, the star studded OC team barely defeated a very good Division II state bowl team from Northern CA. This program is not used to playing the best-of-the-best in CA. They also lost their D coordinator which we all know defense wins at this level. Maybe if OC wins in Washington, they should warrant a top 5 in CA, but there are several other talented and proven programs in CA.

St Bonnaventure may be better than OC this season in D3 this season. Notre Dame should be ranked higher, Edison should be higher, Centenial Corona should be higher...From the North, Granite Bay and Nevada Union may be better than Grant (while Grant still will have lots of talent and I would put them above those two, but maybe GB should be in top 15). What Valley Christian are you talking about? Soiuthen CA, Northern CA? There are at least 2 well known VC programs in CA (one in North and one in South)out of 4 schools withat that name. Central section may also have at least one to two top 10. In northern CA Monte Vista would probably be a top 15 team, but they have the unfortunate problem of playing in the same league as DLS. Probably 2-3 other teams (not counting DLS) a year from that league could be in the top 30 in CA. I would put OC in the top 10, but probably around 7. They are unproven against top teams even in their section and playoffs.

The 2006 Oaks Christian team is considered by Max preps the best team in the last 25 years at any level in any state. They played Cardinal newman without All american RB Marc Tyler, and they played in the biggest neutralizer of all; the rain soaked field. Tyler and a dry field would have accounted for at leat 4 more TDS. Centennial is ranked too high, and Granite bay, whoever they are, is unproven. The best team in the nation, if not, the most talented is Oaks Christian, thats a no brainer!!

OS is likely the best team in Div 11 (eleven) out of 13 divisions in the SS CIF. But thumping the likes of Oak Park, Fillmore, Carpenteria, Santa Paula, Bakersfield Christian (who recently moved up from 8-man) and Little Sisters of the Poor will never generate respect in the HS world. If they played Poly, MD, Servite, Crespi, Notre Dame type teams every yr, then their starters would have to play 4 quarters, not 2 or less. And it would bring injuries and depth into the equation.
I think Jimmy C is a shining example of how the OC players excel when faced w/real competition. Im sure Charlie Weiss is thrilled w/him. Honestly, I think Charlie has seen enough "cant miss, all-world, super stud OC QBs", which is probably why he didnt even offer a legacy chollie to Nick M.

Anonymous said...

LOL! - its not OS, it's OC!. I guess their thumping of then #14 nationally ranked St. Bonaventure team with 3 all americans wasnt much. The final score was 55-7 wasnt it? How about their thrashing of Serra? What was that score? 66- 24 or something like that. No wonder
Notre Dame and Crespi backed out of their contract to play Oaks in 2009.

Anonymous said...

Mr.DeMoney you have done your research pal! Bellevue, Wa is the team to look out for this year. 6+ Division 1 players with many others who have college talent. If they beat Katy, TX and Grant, Ca then go undefeated and win state, can you say National Champs?! I believe it would be the first time ever a team from the NW won the national championship! Go Bellevue!

Lakeland will take down Cali's little spoiled private school boys at De La Salle. They won't know what hit them when that Lakeland speed starts running all around the field.

STA may go undefeated, but they will have to go through a much more experienced Lakeland Club to do it in the state final. That is if both make it their. That would make 5 of the last 6 5a titles that these two play for.

And 2006 Oaks Christian is not considered the best team ever. That would be 2004 Colerain or 2005 Byrnes. To bad no one else agrees with those. 2008 STA was the best High School team I have ever seen.

Anonymous said...

It is true that max preps went on recording saying that the 06 Oaks Christian team is the best they have ever seen, but all experts apart from Max preps regard the 2003 DeLaSalle team as the best team ever, and i agree. Byrnes of 05 wouldnt even come close, much less Colerain although both very good team.

I really dont think Lakeland is that much faster than DLS. Lakeland is fast but so is DLS, it tradition.

Anonymous said...

Actually, most people think that the 2001 De La Salle team was the best with Maurice Drew and Derek Landri. The 2002 might have also been a bit better than 2003. Both the 2001 and 2002 teams beat very talented Long Beach Poly teams. The 2001 Poly team had been rated by some as the #1 team in the nation before losing to De La Salle. As for speed, Lakeland has four football players that ran a 4x100 relay this year of 42.26. De La Salle has 3 football players as part their 4x100 relay team that ran a 40.85 this year. I'd bet that they could find another player on the football team that could be part of a foursome that would still beat Lakeland. De La Salle always has very fast players.

Anonymous said...

Anon12:19 - for what it's worth, and that may be something, nothing, or everything...but the Calpreps project a matchup has Colerain 2004 beating the following teams mentioned:

2001 De Lasalle (33-31)
2003 De Lasalle (28-24)
2004 Southlake Carroll (38-28)
2005 Byrnes (41-27...ouch!)
2006 Oaks Christian (42-24...ouch!)
2008 Aquinas (31-28)

2004 Colerain is 6-0 against that schedule. Not saying they'd actually gone 6-0 but seems like they'd be in every one of those games, except for the 3 games where they were clearly better (04 Carroll, 05 Byrnes, & 06 Oaks Christian).

You just had to see that team to understand. It had nothing to do with who went on to do what (that has nothing to do with HS success). They absolutely demolished everyone they played and as the scenarios above show, they were good enough to do it to almost anybody, anywhere.

Nice job on the rankings so far. Keep up the great work Jamie.

Anonymous said...

How about 2008 Byrnes vs 2004 coelrain..Byrnes sqeeks it out (28-27) Thats what I'm talking about.

Anonymous said...

If 2008 Byrnes beats 2004 Colerain in the Calpreps model, it is the ONLY team in their database, to date, that I have found that does.

That must have been one UNBELIEVABLE Byrnes squad last season. Should be even better this year, right?

Anonymous said...

Byrnes 2008 should have dominated like no other team has in the history of south carolina football but they did not play up to their potential..They were loaded at every position, not a weakness anywhere but I think they got big headed. This year they should be incredible again as long as the offensive line play comes together cause they lost all five starters and the five backups. It is going to be interesting.

The DLS team from 2003 is most likely the best, but in reality, No one & I mean no one would have come closer than 2 touchdowns to the 2001 & 2002 teams either and that's being kind. It was a special time that will not be repeated. In the second match up with LBP, they could have easily put up 50 points.

Anonymous said...

Lakeland will be in for a big surprise when they meet DLS. Similar to the way LBP dismantled Miami Northwestern last year, DLS will do the same.

The CalPreps argument is basically meaningless when comparing two teams from different years. Spend some time on their website and read what its rating strengths and weaknesses are. Comparing teams from the same year is a better comparison.

Anonymous said...

I've attended over 100 De La Salle games in the last ten years and believe that the 2001 team was the best that I've seen. Matt Gutierrez(2001)was a better QB than his brother (2003) and Maurice Drew(2001) was better than Terrance Kelly (2003). But we aren't talking about a touchdown difference here. They were extremely outstanding teams as were the '98 and 2007 teams.
Someone mentioned that DLS will dismantle Lakeland. DLS has some areas that need improvement this year. They looked OK in the passing tournament that I saw, but certainly not terrific. Their special teams and kicking game will be very good. The line play should be strong. Timing between QB and RB might not be so crisp at the beginning of the season. I'm concerned about the secondary, too. DLS will be able to match Lakeland's speedburners step for step and will have more team speed than Lakeland.

Anonymous said...

The comment that De La Salle could have easily scored 50 points in the 2002 game against Long Beach Poly is ridiculous. De La Salle played a great game that day in Berkeley, but no team in the nation could have scored 50 points against Poly on that day or any other day that season.

Anonymous said...

I am from texas but as i have followed HS football closely for the past 15 years folks, I must say that the 2001 DLS team was clearly the best team, by far.

Anonymous said...

Wow, i have never seen a better team than the 99' Delasalle team. D.J Williams was better than Drew, and anyone else that has ever suited up. Kevin Simon was an animal Guitierrez was great as a soph as was Landry. The 98 team was also better than any team this year; Callen, Williams, Padilla, etc!

And for whats its worth. DLS could have easily put up 55 or more on Poly in that game had ladacouer wanted to. Thats a no brainer.

Anonymous said...

As an avid De La Salle fan, I still think that 50 or 55 points against the 2002 Poly team is way out of line. I attended both DLS vs. Poly games. An extra TD or two would have only given DLS 35 or 42 points. If you are thinking that DLS could have scored 3 or 4 more TD's than they did, then I think you're a "homer" and not being very realistic. Scoring 55 points against Poly in 2002 would have been a 1 to 100 longshot for DLS. Any DLS coach would tell you the same.

You can make the "best team" argument for several De La Salle teams. The '98 team beat Mater Dei that still ended up ranked as the #2 team in the nation despite the 28-21 loss to DLS. The 2001 Poly team was ranked by some polls as #1 before they lost to De La Salle 29-15.

Anonymous said...

Clarification...the 2nd DLS/POLY game is the game they could have put up 50 points...it was total domination...LBP diod not know what hit them. The first game, however was THEE classic of classics.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure glad you clarified yourself because you previous statement about DLS not being up to put up 50 against LBP in 02' numbskullish! Not only could they have put up 50, they could have EASILY put up 50!!

Anonymous said...

I'm the poster at 1:38 AM and 2:58 PM and I still think that putting up 50 to 55 points against Poly in 2002 isn't realistic. As mentioned, I attended the game and even the most avid De La Salle fans (and I consider myself one) wouldn't give much creedence to that scenario happening, except you. When and how do you think that DLS could have scored 4 more TD's? DLS played a heck of a game, but no way could they have scored 4 more TD's. As long as you are dreaming, why not say that they could have scored 100?
Unfortunately, narrow-minded fans describe their team as if each lineman could bench press 1,000 pounds, running backs that run a sub 3.0 second forty and QB's that could throw a 70 yard pass through a basketball hoop.
DLS beating Poly 28-7 in 2002 is a tremendous achievement with nobody else even coming close to that performance. No team in the nation was good enough to beat Poly by 50 to 55 thay year. They weren't dog meat.

I like the Louisiana rankings. Very solid!

I'm pretty sure that no one else will have Canton in Michigan's top 5 teams for this fall.

Just remember what I said about Dematha on yappi for the Kirk Herbstreit event LOL!!!

Anyways it's nice to see a list out there this early.
