Week 4 National Prep Football Poll released

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The bottom fifth of this week's National Prep Poll Top 25 features a trio of new teams.

No. 23 Lakeland (Fla.), No. 24 Cincinnati Colerain, and No. 25 Carmel (Ind.) are no strangers to the national rankings, but each team is making its debut in the Top 25 this season.

Lakeland had the look of its 2006 Prep Poll championship team when it throttled defending Pennsylvania 4A champion Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 35-0, last Monday in Wheeling, W.Va. Colerain started the season with only four experienced starters, but it sure hasn't looked that way. The Cardinals have beaten three consecutive teams that started the season in one national poll or another. Defending 5A champion Carmel takes over the national ranking of Center Grove, the team the Greyhounds beat, 33-32, in thrilling, come-from-behind fashion over the weekend.

Nice to see the Cards of Colerain get back to where they belong. It is unbelievable that a school our size has done as well as we have this early on. As long as Colerain makes it through the next two weeks unscathed, a 10-0 season is almost a certainty.

GO CARDS!!
BEAT PRINCETON!!

I assume not having Norman North on the list is just an oversight? Many people in Oklahoma think they could be the state's top team. No way Jenks in top 10 nationally, number one in that region, and NN is nowhere to be found.

Just my opinion. I think you do a great job, and I enjoy reading your site. Keep up the good work, and consider Norman North.

Im glad to see Colerain getting some love in the national poll after only 3 weeks...

I just do not understand how a team can win 63 in a row, 120 of the past 129, 7 of the past 8 4A state championships, and the last 4 in a row in 4A and not be in your top 25. I'm talking about Maryville, Tn high school Red Rebels.
I wonder how many in your top 25 has won anywhere near 63 games in a row. Maybe someone there could explain to me.

How can a team that is ranked in all other polls #1 drop a place in this poll? The Byrnes Rebels was up 31-7 at the half and let everyone play in the 2nd half. You should not have to win 100-0 to be #1 in the nation. Oct. 3rd vs Pahokee Fla ESPN2. Check us out!! We are playing 3 out of state teams this year and will be in Dallas Tx next year, Our Jr running back has been picked to be in the Army Allstar game in 2 years. They have not picked this years team yet, That is a first! Remember this name Marcus Lattimore. 220 yards last week 3td's 12.5/carry in 1 half.

I agree – All the Byrnes kids do is go win and there dropped in the poll. The starters were taken out half way thru the third quarter up 38-7. RV’s last two TD’s were scored on JV and freshman players, one against the D and another on a fumble by our offense they recovered and ran for a TD.

Please keep this in mind ... In order for one team to move up in the rankings, another team is going to have to move down. It's the ying and yang of things.

Our poll has a tradition of not necessarily requiring a loss on the field for a team to lose its spot in the poll.

In our estimation, St. Thomas Aquinas is most deserving of the #2 spot in the nation right now.

I know you have Dorman (Spartanburg, SC) ranked 7th and South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC) ranked 8th in the East Regional rankings, but watch out for Northwestern (Rock Hill, SC) Trojans. I've seen them play and they are just as good as those teams in a head-to-head match with those, I wouldn't be surprised if NW would beat them. I would rank them 2nd in the state behind Byrnes. Northwestern, of all of the SC schools, gave Byrnes their toughest game last year holding the Rebels to 14 points and they have just about everybody back this year. The Trojans are very good. I know that they play South Pointe and Gaffney, but don't be surprised if they finish the regular season undefeated.

Didn't know that Byrnes will be playing in Dallas, TX next year. Who will they be playing?

You are correct, Aquinas should be #2 and Byrnes #1. There is no team more deserving of the #1 spot than Byrnes. When Byrnes played North Gwennitt in GA., The starters were taken out at the end of the 3rd, again, when Byrnes played Ridge View in Columbia SC. again the starters were taken out half way thru the third quarter up 38-7Byrnes will always give the underclassman there shot when Coach Miller knows the game is well in hand. Byrnes could have 90+ point in the first two games this year, if that was how, as a team, they played the game of Football, but it is NOT. We are a Team First, we are not a team that will run the score up on you just because we can, and trust me, if we wanted to we could. What would be the reason to blow a team out by 50 or 60 points, just because we can? Sometimes it happens even with the underclassman in the game, but we cant tell them not to score. When Byrnes played NG, they put up 21 points in the third quarter alone, and had 6min. 14sec. to go in the third. This poll not being computerized lookes like you would take into account the human factor of the game.
