PrepNation 101 Preseason FB Countdown: No. 30 Phoebus

Outlook: The Phantoms, three times a state champion this decade, have all the ingredients for another run to the top. Eighteen starters return, including 10 on defense where Davenport earned Eastern Region Defensive Player of the Year accolades after recording 34 tackles for loss and 18 sacks. He and the region’s offensive player of the year, Boyd, have committed to play at West Virginia. Boyd had over 2,000 yards passing and 500 yards rushing for 32 total touchdowns. Yet another future Mountaineer is Alston, who contributed 1,724 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns. A fourth player who has made an early Division I commitment is Battle, a Virginia-bound safety who plays more like a linebacker. He had 112 tackles including 17 for losses.
