PrepNation 101 Preseason FB Countdown: No. 42 Plant

42. Plant (Tampa, Fla.)
Last season’s record: 11-2, lost in Class 4A quarterfinals
Coach: Robert Weiner
Key players: QB Aaron Murray (6-1, 205, Sr.), WR Orson Charles (6-3, 225, Sr.), DT Austin Clark (6-0, 255, Sr.), DB Hunter Baldwin (6-0, 200, Sr.), LB Mike Mirabella (6-0, 205, Jr.)
Biggest strength: Passing game, skill positions
Question mark: Inexperience elsewhere
Outlook: The Panthers are hoping the Nike 7-on-7 title they won in Oregon this summer is just the start of an overall championship season. The Plant team went undefeated against a field that included four other teams that will start the year in the preseason PrepNation 101 rankings. Murray, who is committed to Georgia, had a phenomenal junior season. He completed 201-of-329 passes (61 percent) for 4,013 yards and 51 touchdowns and ran 93 times for 932 yards (10 average) and another 12 scores. His chief target figures to be Charles, who has tight end size and wide receiver speed. There are only three returning starters on defense, where Clark anchors the interior line. More experience comes from Baldwin and Mirabella, who both earned all-county accolades a year ago.
Toughest games: Sept. 5 vs. Armwood (ESPNU), Oct. 31 vs. Chamberlain

I wish Plant and Armwood were playing out of state teams this year. the out of staters seem to get teams a year late like MNW, Booker T and Pahokee. gotta big up the 813!!!

Can't wait for the season! Here we go!

The '813' might be getting its chance to shine with the possible expansion of the Herbstreit Varsity Football Challenge... Hillsborough has strict out of county travel rules but if the Herbie can put something together and host it in Ray Jay... lookout!!! Plant, Armwood & Lakeland vs. allcomers...

haha. Plants passing offense will agian be shutdown by armwood in my opinion. But its all good. Lakeland and Armwood to be have the best chance to go undefeated this season in the state.

Lakeland would dismantle this team. Tampa teams are notorious for losing against Lakeland. When Tampa Hillsborough was going through their prime a few years back Lakeland systematically slapped them down in Kickoff Classics and the playoffs every year. I'll take a Polk County team over Hillsborough any day...

YO, Polk County. You all play great ball overall. However, do you remember the 2006 playoffs? PLANT 46, Winter Haven 6.

Plant can play with any Polk school. Not saying they would go undefeated but they would be in every game. The only school I'd slightly favor over them this year in Polk is Lakeland (way under-rated 57 in this poll), because Lakeland would control the clock.

Plant is overrated Chamberlain , Hillsborough and Armwood will destroy them.......Running game prevail.

Plant whooped Hillsborough 2 years in a row and beat Chamberlain on the road last year. What has changed? Nothing.

Armwood beat Plant handily twice last year but Plant beat them, the year before.

Year of the Panther, AGAIN!

Plant Plant Plant

what a joke...
Plant has been selling wolf tickets for the past forever. They keep chanting they are the best when Armwood consistantly shuts them down. Passing Game?? what passing game its a joke they try an beat up on teams that they know they can beat but when a hefty oppenent comes they get shut down.
Aaron Murray and alot of other players at plant are so excited to get there rematch against Armwood, there going around to the media practily guarnting a win. Well guess what I figure its just going to be a repeat of last season Aaron won't be able to escape the clutches of the MIGHTY ARMWOOD DEFENSE.

Plant has rung up 43, 49, 56, and 63 the last few weeks. Yes, Armwood beat them in very, very close game that could have gone either way. Can't wait for the playoffs.
