PrepNation 101 Preseason FB Countdown: No. 74 Brophy Prep

74. Brophy Prep (Phoenix)
Last season’s record: 12-2, Class 5A/I champion
Coach: Scooter Molander
Key players: DE Trent Murphy (6-5, 230, Sr.), LB Matt Padilla (5-10, 200, Sr.), LB Adam Holzmeister (5-10, 195, Sr.), LB Brandon Bayardi (6-2, 215, Sr.), DE Seyi Adebayo (6-3, 215, Sr.), RB Tim Auran (6-0, 200, Sr.), RB Max Leonesio (6-1, 195, Jr.), WR Ryan Sunniga (5-11, 180, Sr.), WR Peter Kelly (5-7, 160, Sr.)
Biggest strength: Returning players on defense
Question mark: Youth and inexperience on offense
Outlook: Eight starters are back on defense but only two return on offense for the Broncos, who have won two state championships in the last three years. All-state honoree Padilla leads a trio of returning veterans at linebacker. Murphy and Adebayo are a talented pair of defensive ends. Adebayo has a huge upside and could develop into a highly recruited player this fall. Molander feels good about his receiving corps following its good showing during summer 7-on-7 drills with Division I prospect Sunniga and the small but sure-handed Kelly. At runnnig back, Auran and Leonesio will be called upon to replace departed all-state RB Ray Polk, now at Colorado.
Toughest games: Sept. 5 at Hamilton, Sept. 26 vs. Mesa Mountain View, Oct. 10 vs. Basha
