The Independence Patriots seem to finally be playing up to level of expectation. On Friday night they played their best game of the season.
South Mecklenburg made the twelve mile trip from Pineville to Mint Hill with a four game winning streak after being stopped on a two point conversion going for the win in overtime in its first game of the year. The Sabres had knocked off a solid East Meck squad the week before running behind a huge offensive line and a close game was expected.

Indy rolled out behind the running of senior Rod Chisholm. Chisholm carried the ball 25 times for 276 yards and four td runs. At the end of the first quarter Indy was up 21-0 and would add another seven before South scored. The halftime score was 35-7 and Indy cruised to a 49-14 win with South scoring with just over two minutes left.
Indy was without starting sophmore qb Anthony Carrothers. Safety and speciality teamer Devonte Holloman moved to the offense and performed flawlessly. He threw five times including a 15 yard td pass to senior Javon Rembert.
The game marked the return of Georgia verbal defenseive back Makiri Pugh. Pugh is a 6'1" 200 lb hitter. He made several big time pops coming up to stop runs and played very aggressively. Hopefully he is fully healed from a foot injury and will continue to contribute heavily to Indy's defensive attack.
Indy had no turnovers and that has been a sticking point for Coach Tom Knotts. He was very pleased with Holloman's performance. As good as Holloman was on offense Indy will need him at safety and playing specialities especially in the end of season showdown with neighborhood rival Butler and its aerial attack led by Illinois bound qb Ryan Charest. Carrothers is expected to be available very soon after setting out with an injured foot.
Charlotte Roundup
Butler rolled through Providence 60-6. Providence, a longtime Charlotte power, is down after the opening of a new school that took a large amount of students from the previously overcrowded school.
Charlotte Latin, led by North Carolina qb verbal Braden Hanson, remained undefeated with a 33-10 win over fellow private school Charlotte Christian which entered the game 5-0. Latin plays a big rival game against Providence Day this Friday. This will pit two of Charlotte's remaining three undefeated teams. Each squad has a game looming with the third undefeated squad, Charlotte Country Day.
Greenville Rose suffered another defeat. West Craven beat the four time defending state 4A champion Rampants 40-21. Rose is 3-3 this season after a 39 game winning streak.
It appears that West Charlotte win be in the same class as Indy and Butler for the playoffs after preliminary enrollement numbers were released. Throw Richmond County in the west regional bracket and it looks very competitive. For the first time since 2000 Indy is not a solid favorite to win the state big school title.

Independence is horrible. If they played in Cincinnati they would be 3-3 tops at this point. They lost to an Elder team that is horrible. This team is no good. Independence would go 0-3 in the GCL-South. Why waste time on this team.
They wouldnt make the playoffs in Ohio unless they played a cupcake schedule. Then they would get blown out in the first round if they were in region 4.
How you guys likes to play an Indy team with Chris Leak and Hakeem Nicks?
App State is the best team in the Big Ten if Michigan wins the title but Wofford is better than both of them. The best team does not always win a game. The stars aligned that night in Cinci.
